two 'propulsive, sophisticated' novels to be published by Sphere

Edel Coffey's

Sphere is set to publish two "propulsive, sophisticated" novels from Edel Coffey. Senior commissioning editor Cal Kenny acquired UK & Commonwealth rights to In Glass Houses and one more book, from the Marianne Gunn O’Connor Literary, Film & TV Agency. The first book is scheduled for publication in February 2026, and is described as "a thriller with a book club twist".

The synopsis reads: "Twenty years ago, Eddie’s career as a journalist was destroyed by the Juliet Fox case. Juliet was young and beautiful, born into the privileged world of the Manhattan elite. Pulled into their orbit by her investigation, Eddie discovered how far the rich and powerful are prepared to go when their way of life is threatened. So when a new luxury sky-rise is opened by Juliet’s father two decades later, just metres from where her body was discovered, Eddie can’t resist finding her way back into a world where dangerous people operate in the shadows, and anyone might kill to keep a secret safe."

Coffey is an Irish journalist and broadcaster, starting as an arts journalist and editor with the Sunday Tribune and has since worked as a presenter and reporter with RTÉ Radio, editor of the Irish Independent Weekend Magazine and books editor of the Irish Independent.

She said: "In Glass Houses was inspired by an unsolved murder that happened near my hometown 30 years ago and has haunted me ever since. Eddie was a gift of a character whose voice was there from the beginning and was an absolute dream to write – I can’t wait for readers to meet her. I am thrilled to be working with Sphere and Cal Kenny again, quite simply two of the best in the business."

Kenny said: "In Glass Houses is a propulsive, sophisticated thriller with a decades-long mystery at its heart that is sure to have readers turning the pages long into the night. But, like all Edel’s novels, it is equally preoccupied with examining knotty themes of class, female autonomy and the societal pressures that force people to behave in desperate ways. This novel is evidence of an outstanding writer who continues to hone her craft and gets better with every book. I’m so excited for readers to get their hands on In Glass Houses and it’s my privilege to be Edel’s editor."

Sphere will publish In Glass Houses in hardback, trade paperback, e-book and audio on 12th February 2026. The second, untitled book is scheduled for 2027.
